I’m Merike! (like “merica” in America, or “Erica” with an M - but we can just keep things simple and you can call me MEZ)

I’m a graphic designer based in North Vancouver, fuelled by creative curiosity and caffeine.

My formal training is in 2D Animation and Visual Development (Class of 2019, Capilano University). I’ve independently studied Graphic Design over many years, gaining experience both freelance and in-house with small businesses. Currently I am expanding my skill set into UX/UI Design at BCIT.

I’ve recently spent several years in Australia and New Zealand, fulfilling personal travel goals and occasionally working temporary roles in everything from farm labour to cafes to boutique calligraphy and freelance design.

My style by nature is clean, bold, colourful and illustrative, influenced by bold minimalism and Scandinavian design characteristics. I get excited about learning new design styles that challenge and adapt my skills for the right look and feel of the brand or project I’m working with.

I can do this:

  • print + digital design

  • logo design

  • brand identies + guidelines

  • menu + poster layout design

  • boutique calligraphy + typography

  • freehand illustration

  • motion graphics + video editing

  • basic web design

  • UX/UI design

I know this:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud Software:
    Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, AfterEffects

  • Canva

  • Figma

  • Microsoft Office Suite:
    Word, Powerpoint, Excel

  • Squarespace, Wix, Wordpress

  • iPad Procreate

…because
of this:

  • Capilano University
2D Animation and Visual Development (2019)

  • University of British Columbia
Art studies, media studies, general curiosities

  • British Columbia Institute of Technology
User Interface and User Experience Design (2026)

  • Countless hours on Youtube and Skillshare

…and someday
I’m going to do this:

  • Learn sign language

  • Create a feature design for a brand I love

  • Go paragliding

  • Brew homemade kombucha
